Mid-April: Enlistment in the Imperial and Royal Dragoon Regiment 3 as a one-year volunteer at Breitensee Barracks

From mid-January: Taking part in the Russian campaign along the Galician front

July 12: Captured near Olesza; subsequent prisoner-of-war internment in Siberia (Krasnaya Ryetshka, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk)

August 14: Return to Vienna; re-enrollment at the university (history and psychology)
